Infection by two liver flukes, Clonorchis sinensis and Opisthorchis viverrini, affects more than 35 million people worldwide, principally in East and Southeast Asia. Because liver fluke infection can persist up to several decades, military service personnel, immigrants, and travelers returning from these areas may continue to experience active infection. Yet diagnostic tests to detect liver fluke infection have not been readily available in the U.S.
